Each visit typically lasts 1 hour. Depending on the injury, you may require 1-3 visit per week for 4-8 weeks. Your therapist will discuss a detailed treatment plan during your first visit.
Unlike other clinics, where you may see someone different each visit, we feel it is very important to develop a one-on-one relationship with you to maintain continuity of care.
You will be evaluated by one of our licensed and highly trained physical therapists and work closely with them throughout your rehabilitation.
This consistency allows your therapist to provide the most effective treatments to accelerate your recovery.
During your first visit, you can expect your therapist to discuss the following:
Medical history.
Current problems/complaints.
Pain intensity, what makes it worse and what makes it better.
How the injury is impacting your daily activities and your functional limitations.
Personal goals for your physical therapy care.
Medications, tests, and procedures related to your health.
Your therapist will then perform the objective evaluation which may include some of the following:
Palpation – touching around the area of the pain/problem in order to check for tenderness, swelling, soft tissue integrity, tissue temperature, inflammation, etc.
Range of Motion (ROM) – your therapist will move the joint(s) to check for the quality of movement and any restrictions.
Muscle Testing – your therapist may check for strength and the quality of the muscle contraction.
Neurological Screening – your therapist may check to see how the nerves are functioning by checking sensation and reflexes.
Special Tests – your therapist may perform specific maneuvers to confirm/rule out the presence of pathology.
Posture Assessment – to analyze balance, alignment and motion.
Your therapist will analyze the information to create a prioritized problem list and a treatment plan to address those problems. This includes how many times you should see your therapist per week, how many weeks you will need therapy, home programs, education, and your treatment goals. This plan is created with input from you, and your doctor.
